Gyantse Travel Guide

Gyantse is a county located in the east of Shigatse. Gyantse means "the peak of victory" in Tibetan.  As a traffic hub in the line that connected China and India for hundreds of years, Gyantse has long been the center for border trade and a key site for pilgrims on a Tibet trip. Once it was the third city of Tibet, although the town is not as busy as before, perhaps just because of this, the charm of the land has been well preserved.

Gyantse Attractions

The most famous attraction in Gyantse is Pelkor Chöde Monastery which is a unique temple with Sakya, Zhalu, and Gulug sects living together peacefully. A tower called One-Hundred-Thousand-Buddha Tower(aka. Gyantse Kumbum) kept there one of the most magnificent masterpieces in Tibet. Besides, Gyantse Dzong and Karola Glacier are sites you can’t miss on Tibet tours. View more>>
