Mutianyu Pass was fortified in 1404 (the 2nd year of Emperor Yongle's reign) with a rare triangular formation of three interlinked watchtowers. In 1569(the third year of Emperor Longqing's reign), General Tan Lun and Qi Jiguang repaired the Great Wall on the foundation of Ming Wall.
