Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base
Located in the north of Chengdu City, the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is an artificial home for pandas. Here all the lovely pandas can be reared well and live comfortably.
The giant pandas are not only be cherished by Chinese people but also they are popular all over the world. They just live in Sichuan, Shanxi and Gansu province now. Totally, the number of pandas is less than 2,000, and 70% of them live in Chengdu, Sichuan. Thus, acute and rare pandas are the major scenery which can’t be missed when you travel to Chengdu, Sichuan.
Covering an area of 560 mus (92 acres), the base is also used to take care of other rare and endangered animals in the verdant surroundings. There are over 20 species of rare animals are raised there, including Giant pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white storks, etc. Lush bamboos, colorful flowers, a brilliant hill scene, and an excellent artificial view are matched together naturally in the base.
Infrastructures here are perfect, such as a fodder room, sleeping quarters and a medical station. Besides that, the museum, research, and training center have also been built.
A massive of plants and ten thousand clumps of bamboos and bushes are also planted in order to meet animals’ diet and habitats. In order to liberate the nature of giant pandas and add survival training in the Wilderness, the base has been broadened another area of 3,000 mus (500 acres) to create a nature-pretended condition.
For developing scientific education and appealing to people to protect rare creatures and natural environment, the Giant Panda Museum was opened to the public in 1993. This museum is the only one concentrated on rare and precious animal species. There are three major exhibitions held in the Giant Panda Hall, the Butterfly Hall, and the Vertebrate Hall. These halls exhibit contain various valuable pictures, over 800 materials and over 2140 diversified samples collected in Sichuan. Animals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects, fossils and models are included. Collections of samples in the museum have increased to ten thousand along with a library with thousands of books and documents. This superior and inclusive museum offers people who are keen on visiting transmission and protection of natural biodiversity.
