Shanghai Tower
Located in Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone of Pudong, Shanghai Tower, about 632 high, with Shanghai World Financial Center to the east and Jin Mao Tower to the north, is the tallest building in China. It covers an area of 30,368 square meters (about 326,878 square feet). And the floor space of Shanghai Tower is about 576,000 square meters (about 6,200,012 square feet). Shanghai Tower involves 5 basement levels, 127 floors above ground and 5 podium floors.
The building is serviced by 149 elevators, of which 108 are lifts. Three of the lifts can send passengers up to the 500 meters (about 1,640 feet) high sightseeing platform from the street level within one minute, which is a world record holder.
It is amazing for tourists to take the express elevator to the 119th floor where tourists can directly see the whole view of the tower. And a whole ride only takes 55 seconds.
From the top, we can see that the Shanghai Tower looks like a guitar pick. As the height rises, each level warps nearly 1 degree. This special design can delay the romantic flow. When the wind around the building, a vortex shedding effect will appear which will result in violent shaking of the skyscrapers. A wind tunnel test on a scaled-down model found that this form factor design can reduce lateral forces by 24%, which is crucial for the Shanghai building.
The tower has two glass facades, an inner one, and an outer one, like overlapping "tubes". The space between the two "tubes" varies from 1 to 10 meters (3 to 33 feet) wide which provide more public space inside the building. In addition, the space functions as a heat insulation layer like in a thermos flask.
Shanghai Tower is a comprehensive super high-rise buildings which are office-based and the other formats involve conventions, hotels, tourism and entertainment and business The building contains five functional areas, the popular commercial entertainment area, low, medium and high office space, corporate hall area, boutique hotel area and the top functional experience space.
